Most Frequently Asked Travel Insurance Questions

Why do I need to purchase a travel insurance policy when traveling abroad?
If you need medical care when traveling abroad, your health care plan may pay only a portion of the costs, or even none at all. Travel insurance can help to reimburse any expenses that you may be forced to pay along the way.

Will a pre-existing medical condition affect my travel insurance coverage?
If you have a pre-existing medical condition, you are eligible for coverage for Trip Cancellation/Interruption and Emergency Accident & Sickness Medical Expense (and the Medical Upgrade if this is purchased) condition if you purchase your travel insurance plan no longer than 30 days after initial trip deposit for Worldwide Trip Protector Gold, 21 days for Worldwide Trip Protector, and 14 days for Trip Protector Lite Expanded. Pre-existing Medical Conditions coverage is not available on Trip Protector Lite. If the medical condition and its treatment has remained unchanged for 180 days prior to the day you purchase your policy, it is not considered pre-existing and is covered as a regular medical condition for both Trip Cancellation/Interruption, Emergency Accident & Sickness Medical Expense, and the Medical Upgrade even if you do not purchase your policy within the time limits mentioned above.

A pre-existing medical condition is defined as any accident, sickness or condition that affects you, your traveling companion (insured or uninsured), or any member of your immediate family (insured or uninsured) and for which medical advice, diagnosis, care, or treatment was obtained in the 180 days prior to the day you purchase your policy.

Do I need to buy a separate travel insurance policy for my child?
With Travel Insured, the Worldwide Trip Protector plans all children 17 or under are insured for free with the primary insured related/guardian adult. On the Trip Protector Lite and Trip Protector Lite Expanded plans, one child 17 or under is insured for free per each insured related/guardian adult.
Should I really read the details of the travel insurance policy before my trip?
We advise you to carefully read all of the documents associated with the travel coverage you purchase so that you are sure to understand all details and exclusions as well as have the appropriate documentation needed if you must file a claim. Also, be sure to keep it with you while you are traveling.

Why should I invest in a policy that offers Cancel for Any Reason?
By purchasing a Cancel for Any Reason benefit, you are able to cancel for any reason (not already covered under trip cancellation) more than 48 hours prior to the scheduled departure date.  It can only be purchased within 21 days of initial trip deposit for Worldwide Trip Protector and 30 days for Worldwide Trip Protector Gold
.
When should I purchase my travel insurance policy?
You should invest in a travel insurance policy as soon as you paid your first initial deposit towards your travel plans.  Once a traveler makes their first arrangement for a trip, that date becomes the initial trip deposit date, so it is important to purchase coverage right away otherwise all benefits might not be in effect.
