Big changes are afoot in Cuba travel! In December 2014, President Obama announced an historic agreement between the U.S. and Cuban governments to ease long-standing restrictions on trade and other interactions between the two countries, including those preventing American citizens from travelling to Cuba.
A key part of the new regulations will allow for expanded travel for the 12 existing categories of travel to Cuba allowed by current law (family visits, professional research, humanitarian projects.
While general tourist travel to Cuba remains banned under law, the new rules represent a major step toward ASTA’s long-held goal that Americans ought to be allowed to travel across the globe without restriction.
However, many questions remain – how can travel agents participate in the Cuba market while complying with the new rules? Does Cuba have the infrastructure to cope with an influx of American visitors? How do the operations of existing Cuba tour operators and service providers work in practice?
Join our panel of distinguished Cuba experts to learn more about these and other questions relating to the “brave new world” of Cuba travel.
