Greek And French Strike Warning
Holidaymakers to Greece face disruption next week as Federation of Civil Aviation unions have called a five-day strike from Monday. The UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office said there is likely to be some disruption to a number of domestic and international flights in Greece, but said it's not yet clear which airports or services will be affected. Greek civil aviation workers are walking out in protest against the long-term lease of 14 regional airports, planned as part of the government's privatisation programme to help with the country's bailout. Yesterday, walk-outs disrupting
public transport services to and from Athens Airport.
The FCO is also warning of continued rail strikes in France and of nationwide protests planned across the country for June 23 and 28. Strike action by French air traffic controllers has already led to dozens of flight cancellations during the Euro 2016 football tournament. Government officials in northern France have banned all takeaway alcohol sales, drinking in public places and the use of all metallic cans and glass bottles in Lille and surrounding areas until 6am today.
