French Country Waterways Offers 30 Percent Commission

French Country Waterways is offering a 30 percent travel agent commission on bookings made this year on 45 departures in July and August 2008. The commission increase is good on individual and group bookings and charters on all five of the company's luxury barge cruises.

Prices have not yet been set for 2008 but 2007 all-inclusive prices range from $4,495 to $5,995 per person, double occupancy, and $42,360 to $84,510 for whole barge charters.

Weekly departures are scheduled from April 6 to October 26, 2008. Each barge carries eight to 18 passengers on six-night cruises through Champagne, Burgundy, Alsace-Lorraine and the Upper Loire Valley.

Cruises include a dinner ashore at a Michelin-starred restaurant; four-course candlelit dinners accompanied by Grand Cru and Premier Cru wines; and daily sightseeing excursions to nearby medieval towns and churches, châteaux and famous vineyards.

There is no smoking inside the barges and coaches. The all-suite, 12-passenger Nenuphar, which plies the canals of Champagne, has been totally renovated and rebuilt with custom cherry paneling and furniture, a choice of king-size or twin beds, and marble bathrooms.

The 18-passenger Esprit sails through Burgundy's Côte d'Or wine region. The 12-passenger Adrienne, launched in 2005, sails in the Upper Loire, gateway to the châteaux country, while the eight-passenger Horizon II cruises Burgundy on the Canal de Bourgogne.

The eight-passenger Princess, formerly the private barge of shipping magnate Daniel K. Ludwig, makes its way between Strasbourg and Nancy, capitals of Alsace-Lorraine.

The barges all have a sundeck, lounge and dining room, well-stocked bar, bicycles and library of books, music and games. Suites and staterooms feature full-size beds, individual air-conditioning and heating controls, private bath, hair dryer, extra pillows and fresh flowers.

Cruise rates include suite or stateroom accommodations, all meals, estate-bottled wines at lunch and dinner, one dinner ashore at a Michelin-starred restaurant, open bar, tours and excursions, private wine tasting, bicycles, and escorted transfers between Paris or Strasbourg and the barges. Hot-air ballooning is an option. For more information, call 800-222-1236 or visit www.fcwl.com.

Princess Adds Tools to Help Plan Cruise Sales

Princess Cruises has introduced a new POLAR Online feature to help home based travel agents plan a sale, cruise night or other promotions.

In addition, the company's online training program, Princess Academy, has just added a new course called "Successful Cruise Nights" to help agents maximize sales from these events. The new course was suggested by and written in collaboration with an experienced travel agent, who entered the winning suggestion in a recent competition to recommend new Academy course topics.

Agents can schedule a weeklong Princess cruise sale up to six times each year. Sale events enable agents to offer customers a reduced $100-per-person deposit and a Princess coupon booklet with more than $120 worth of onboard discounts. With the new POLAR Online function, agents can to set up their cruise sale dates in two steps, rather than calling in to reserve their cruise sale week.

Agents will also be able to track results from cruise sales over time, so in the future they can refer back to see how successful past events have been. "We've heard from agents that holding a regular cruise sale is a great way to help stimulate business," said Jan Swartz, Princess' senior vice president of customer service and sales. "To make these promotions as easy as possible, we've now streamlined the scheduling process so agents can plan their cruise sale through POLAR Online in just minutes. Then they can study our new Cruise Night course in Princess Academy to learn the latest tips on hosting the most effective cruise night possible."

The "Successful Cruise Nights" course in Princess Academy was developed to offer ideas to help increase sales. The course was based on a suggestion from travel agent Diana Reuling of Cruise & Sea Inc. in Frederick, Md. Reuling won the Princess Academy Insider's "Suggestion Box" contest, which was a competition to suggest a new course for the Academy, and she received $500 for her winning suggestion. She also collaborated on the course content to provide some of her own best advice and tips on hosting a cruise night. The new course is now available to all Academy participants, including as continuing education for Commodore graduates.

Additional new courses will be available soon which focus on sales skills and techniques for driving business. Princess Cruise Night Kits, containing advertising material, decorating items and door prizes, are also available through district sales managers to help agents host a Cruise Night in conjunction with the sale. Academy agents can also look for similar contests to be announced periodically through the Insider, an email newsletter exclusively for Academy participants that offers advance information to help agents drive sales by staying on top of the latest developments with Princess. For more information, call 800-421-1700 or visit www.onesourcecruises.com.
