Cruise Lines Expecting Record-Breaking 2008
The first 4 months of the new year are traditionally the busiest of the year for travel agents. We call it WAVE season because of all the cruises we sell.
BOOK EARLY OR BEWARE
The travel industry trend toward making cruise reservations far in advance is predicted to accelerate even further in 2008, with consumers heeding CLIA's message that early bookers are ensured the best savings and their optimum choices in ships, staterooms and sailings. Some travel agents have reported that travelers booked 2009 cruises nearly two years in advance. Others have said that their 2008 booking levels are already exceeding those of 2007.
As the cruise industry matures, so too do baby boomers. They are a formidable swath of the population that grew up on rock 'n roll, who, although aging chronologically, remain forever "young at heart." In travel terms, baby boomers seek vacations that incorporate active and adventurous elements but are unwilling to sacrifice creature comforts.
The "Old World," which has benefited from sold-out summer seasons in 2006 and 2007, is on track to record another banner year. CLIA-member cruise lines will be adding new ports along Croatia's Dalmatian Coast, as well as in southern Italy, Turkey, Greece and Spain.
IT'S A FAMILY AFFAIR
Cruises provide the ideal vacation venue to maintain close ties, and larger numbers of family groups are bringing several generations together. For maturing boomers, family is a priority, as is finding meaningful ways to bond with children and grandchildren who may live far away. Today's cruise ships are uniquely able to satisfy the ever-changing dynamics of modern American families, which might also include step-parents and children, plus cousins, aunts and uncles and family friends.
LUXURY CRUISING TAKES OFF
In 2007, the majority of luxury ships sailed full - thanks in part to increased affluence and younger, first-time cruisers who have discovered luxury cruising's huge appeal. Business is so buoyant, in fact, that for the first time in many years orders are being placed for new ships catering to this segment of the cruise industry.
ROMANCE AT SEA
An ocean voyage has been the quintessential romantic vacation for generations, from Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr in "An Affair to Remember" to Leonardo di Caprio and Kate Winslet's epic "Titanic" love affair. Star-crossed cruisers can dine al fresco on their stateroom verandah, enjoy high-energy floorshows, flirt with Lady Luck, dance cheek-to-cheek, or savor the sea air on a moonlit stroll on deck.
Not surprisingly, cruises are ideal for honeymooners - a fact that has led to a burgeoning of this market segment - whether 20-something couples or newlyweds in their 40s and 50s celebrating a first or subsequent marriage. Depending on the cruise line, ships' captains can perform a legally binding wedding at sea or ceremonies can be held on board by a local officiant while in port on embarkation day, allowing family and friends to join in the festivities. In growing popularity, wedding guests are invited to sail with the couple

Azamara Cruises launched a promotion that offers onboard credit to guests in North America who book European voyages and bonus commissions to travel agents for each eligible booking.
During the promotion, which runs through Feb. 29, any 2008 Europe sailing booked at an ocean-view or higher category of stateroom will earn guests onboard credit for use during that cruise.

Travel Gift Certificates a Hit!
Three weeks before Christmas '06, Wanderlust Tours sent out a short, postcard-style e-mail to their entire database to remind shoppers that a gift certificate would be a great gift idea. Although open rates were average, Wanderlust's gift certificate sales tripled in '07, all due to a simple, clean, full color, HTML e-mail postcard.
E-card ideas
Give a little gift -
Say thank you with an exclusive coupon. Ask them to print the e-card and bring it in for some percent off their next purchase, or to receive a special gift. You know what kind of "gift" is valuable to your audience. Make it special and make it clear that this offer is only for those on your email list, then it truly is exclusive.
Spread some cheer -
Thank your list members by giving them something intended for forwarding. Include a family and friends discount in your e-card. An enticing offer can make your e-card go a long way and get great results. Also, you can grow your list by adding a sign-up link at the bottom of the card.
Eat, drink, and be merry -
Share a favorite holiday food or drink recipe. Most people have a number of parties that they attend over the holidays, with workmates, friends, and family. And many times they need to bring something. Help them be the life of the party by sending them a recipe for a dish or beverage that's guaranteed to hit a homerun. Make it quick, easy, and enticing. Include a photo (if you have a good one).
Give a tip -
Serve up a few helpful tips (relevant to your audience, of course!). You can send some general holiday tips like "5 ways to cope with holiday shopping" or tips that fall within your area of expertise. For example, a travel agent may send "5 Tips for Easier (or safer) Holiday Travel." Think about what would be useful to your audience. Be creative. And if that's not your forte, then brainstorm with a creative friend.
Check your offer.
When you've decided on your offer, run it through this checklist to make sure it is as effective as it can be.
1. Does your offer have a high perceived value? "Perceived" is the key word here. It just has to be something of value to your audience. If you are a professional dog trainer and send an email to your list of people who each just got a new puppy, a valuable offer would be the downloadable article, "How to Train Your New Puppy."
2. Is your offer easy to understand and take action on? Make it simple. Don't add a lot of conditions or steps. If you can, stick with one step...call this number, click here to download this whitepaper, type in this discount code, or register here.
3. Is your offer relevant to the product, service, or event you are promoting? A great offer isn't just good for the person who receives it; it's good for your business or organization too! Especially in the case of lead generation, you want your offer to tie into the product you're selling, event you're promoting, or service you're providing.
We wish you a blessed holiday season and great new year!
Sincerely,
Rob Sexton

Turn Honeymoon Couples into 100's of new Travel Clients
The Honeymoon Registry.
A honeymoon registry is a wonderful alternative to traditional wedding gifts. It allows couples to plain that special dream honeymoon and it gives friends and relatives an opportunity to give a gift that is sure to be loved.
Why a honeymoon registry?
1. The Honeymooners.
Couples are getting married later in life. Most already have toasters and all the other traditional gifts newlyweds normally get. This makes it harder for friends and relative to find a nice gift.
Also the the couple has had several vacations and doesn't want to go back to the same places agen. Especialy if they were there befor with there X . So finding a honeymoon destination that is truly special to them can becomes both a challenge and a larger expence. A honeymoon registry helps both the friends relatives and the honeymoon couple achieve there goals of finding the right gift and helping the couple to pay for there dream honeymoon.
2. The Agent.
The agent benefits from being able to plain a truly amazing honeymoon and receiving a great commission for all your time and effort.
Also the smart agent will go one step further by getting the mailing list of all the friends and relatives of both the bride and groom by offering to mail the registry application for free.
This does several things.

1. It saves time and money for the couple.
2. You can gain 100's of names of potential clients. Don't forget to ask if any of there friends are also planning a honeymoon in the near future.
3. When you send your invitation to the honeymoon registration to all the couples friends and relatives, send a note explaining that as special friend of the couples. You will send a $20. Gift Certificate, to each person who contributes to the couples honeymoon.

Join us on an exclusive cruise featuring the incomparable sounds of Three Dog Night and the one and only The Lovin’ Spoonful!
From 1969-1974, nobody had more Top 10 hits, moved more records, or sold more concert tickets than Three Dog Night. During this period Three Dog Night was undoubtedly the most popular band in America: twenty-one consecutive Top 40 hits and twelve straight gold LPs. By late '75, they had sold nearly 50 million records. From Old Fashioned Love Song to Mama Told Me Not to Come, their hits wind through the fabric of popular culture for the past four decades.
In early 1965 as the "British Invasion" dominated American music, two rockers from Long Island teamed up with two folkies from Greenwich Village to form The Lovin' Spoonful and go on to record & perform some of the songs that would rule the charts and establish them among the greats of the era. Combining the best of folk music and rock and roll with a touch of country, they gave us such hits as Do You Believe in Magic, You Didn't Have to be So Nice and Summer in the City.
Plus, Cruising to Music will feature Blood, Sweat & Tears and Chicago and tribute shows from fan-favorite tribute band Hot Brass Monkey

Effective Jan. 31, 2008, New Requirements for Entry at Land and Sea Ports from Canada
Effective Jan. 31, 2008, U.S. and Canadian citizens (19 and older) will be required to present proof of citizenship, such as 1) a passport or 2) a birth certificate or naturalization certificate supported by a government issued photo ID, when entering the United States through land and sea ports of entry from Canada. Children ages 18 and under are only required to present proof of citizenship (without ID), such as a birth certificate, naturalization certificate or passport. If a birth certificate is presented, it must be a certified birth certificate issued by the city, county or state. A photocopy of a birth certificate will only be accepted by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) if the original has been sent to the Department of State in support of a passport application. In such case, the traveler must obtain and provide proof of passport application . These changes are significant as compared to the current and long-standing policy that allows CBP officers to accept oral declarations of citizenship from U.S. and Canadian citizens seeking entry into the United States through a land or sea border. Effective Jan. 31, 2008, oral declarations will not be accepted.
Travel agents should remind all customers traveling by land or sea to Canada to take either a valid passport or a government issued birth certificate and photo ID beginning Jan. 31, 2008. All travelers by air should be reminded to bring a passport. The passport requirement for air travelers entering the U.S. from Canada has been on the books since Jan. 8, 2007. Please note that travelers holding NEXUS, SENTRI and FAST cards will continue to be accepted for cross-border travel.
Eventually, at an unspecified date in mid-2008, the Department of State will require passports, or soon-to-be announced passport alternatives, from ALL travelers at ALL points, including air, land and sea, within the Western Hemisphere. Prior to the effective date, the State Department intends to make available a Passport Card, which is specifically designed for land and sea travel from neighboring countries. The primary advantages of the Passport Card are that it will be less expensive and smaller than a traditional passport. In addition, several states including Washington, Vermont and New York are creating an Enhanced Driver_s License that will, according to the CBP, also fulfill the proof-of-citizenship requirement at land and sea borders. Further details of these alternative products are unknown. However, CBP says that ample notice of the exact date of implementation will be provided to ensure travelers can obtain the appropriate documents.
Since passports are the gold standard for entering and exiting the country from all foreign destinations, ALL travelers, including those traveling by land or sea in the Western Hemisphere, should be encouraged to obtain, and travel with, a passport. The current turnaround time for a passport is four to six weeks. For information on obtaining a U.S. Passport visit www.travel.state.gov or call 1-877-487-2778. Specific documentation requirements for land, sea and air travel may be found at www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/travel/vacation/ready_set_go/ . BAHAMAS LEARNING CONFERENCE
Each year the GOGO Learning Conference offers a comprehensive educational event in an important destination. From October 11th through the 16th 2007, the popular Fall Learning Conference was brought to the Bahamas with spotlight on Atlantis Paradise Island and Kerzner’s new stylish addition, The Cove Atlantis and The Reef Atlantis.
Enthusiasm for this Learning Conference was obvious as availability sold out in less than two months. Travel agents from across the U.S took part in the conference experiencing hotel site-inspections, seminars, a huge supplier trade show and the destination as a whole.
From Paradise Island to Cable Beach, travel agents gained exposure to a number of properties including The Cove Atlantis and the newly renovated Sheraton Cable Beach Resort.
GOGO’s seminars offered product training on a number of top selling destinations including, Hawaii, Tahiti, Europe, Costa Rica, Cancun, Las Vegas and Canada to name a few.
Finally, travel agents had the opportunity to meet face-to-face with key suppliers at the annual Learning Conference Trade Show, showcasing over 125 hotels, airlines and industry partners.
As always, there were plenty of prize giveaways and fun events throughout the conference as well. This year, Disney’s Fairy Godmother made an appearance and the Junkanoo entertainment whistled and drummed their way around travel agents during the “Bahamas Welcome Gala.”
