KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON FLYING

This is your message to any client who, after tuning into their local news channel, is showing signs of cancelling. If you are new to selling travel know this: when a travel related tragedy happens, the media take on and keep perpetuating the disaster until they have something else more newsworthy.  Timing: it will last for about a week and then slowly drift from front page to page 5, from top story to a by-the-way mention.

You need quantifiable scientific data that clearly shows air travel is safe. In fact one statistic I found was 8 million to 1 safe. The automobile is the cause of more deaths and injuries than air travel. The National Safety Council estimated that during 2013, 35,200 people died in US traffic accidents, plus there were about 3.8 million crash injuries requiring medical attention.  That’s in one year alone. In my selling days I would use such statistics to allay the fears of anyone not so keen on flying. So there you have it. Source your information, make sure it’s current and the source is credible.  Naturally your role in your client’s safety is to make sure you book them only on airlines with the BEST safety records. You cannot control weather or terrorism however you can at least work your magic in terms of carrier and routes.
