Family River Cruises

Uniworld is launching a new "Grand River Family" program designed to appeal to grandparents and parents who want to take European river cruises with young members in their families.

Uniworld said the demand for family travel is growing at an exponential rate. Onboard, Uniworld vessels have separate game rooms, special activities and entertainment, and children's menus for young travelers.

Ashore, there are specially designed excursions for families. Family-friendly itineraries include a nine-day "Castles Along the Rhine" cruise that sails the Rhine River between Amsterdam, Netherlands, and Basel, Switzerland. Highlights include a mini-train ride to Siegfried's Mechanical Museum, home to one of the largest collections of self-playing musical instruments in the world, and the Speyer Technical Museum, with a walk-in Boeing 747, a U9 German Navy submarine, fire engines, locomotives, aircrafts and helicopters.

Cruise-only prices start at $1,898 per person, double, for June, July and August departures. Children between 8 and 18 years of age receive 50 percent off the cruise-only rate when accompanied by an adult.

A nine-day "Paris and Normandy" cruise sails on the Seine from Paris, through the countryside of Northern France to the beaches of Normandy and then back to Paris. This program includes family-friendly guided tours of Auvers Sur Oise, Honfleur, Rouen and Giverny and a visit to the beaches of Normandy.

Highlights include "Sun and Fun" in Le Havre, an onboard Van Gogh painting workshop and a hike to Chateau Gaillard, the stronghold of Richard the Lionheart. Cruise-only fares start at $1,898 per person, double, with half-price cruise rates for children ages 8 to 18 years when accompanied by an adult.
