Facebook's Gives Small Business a Boost

Facebook's Small Business Boost

By: Sophie Bujold | Social Media Coach
W: www.sophiebujold.com

If you are a US small business, Facebook is currently running an initiative to help you grow your online presence. With this program they are giving away up to $150 in free ad credits to registered businesses!

If this doesn't seem like a big deal, think about this: let's say your average ad costs about 50 cents per click, your ad could bring in up to 300 new clicks to your page or website. If done right, this means you could get well over 100 news fans with the credit.

What you need to qualify:

  1. You need a Facebook business page
  2. You need to be based out of the USA
  3. You need to have at least 50 fans already
Then, follow this link and apply for the credit. You will get $50 once approved and another $100 if you manage to gain 100 more fans by April 1st.

Baby Boomer Travel Explosion Expected

Over 55 million baby boomers are getting ready to retire. When asked what they intend on doing, Travel and see the world is on top of there list. Most of the baby boomers have been to the Caribbean, Alaska and England and Italy.

So where do they want to go?? Asia, especially China, Japan and India. They also are interested in Russia and eastern Europe like Hungary and seeing beautifully renaissance cites like Budapest.

The have cruised the Caribbean now they want to cruise the Mediterranean. River cruises thought Europe are especially appealing. You get to see several cites with out all the packing and unpacking.

Cruise lines and hotelers are in a building frenzy preparing to meet the travel demand of the baby boomers for more ships and hotels and they are barely keeping up.

Home Based Travel Agents that are specialist in specific destinations will be in huge demand. Example: if you need hart surgery you don't go to a GP, you go to a heart specialist. If you are going to China you don't go to a general travel agent, you go to a China specialist travel agent. One the that is an expert in that destination and can advise you on what to see and do.

People that are interested in becoming a home based travel agents and geting trained as a destination specialist should go to www.homebasedtravelagents.org for more information.

Agents can show expertise through public relations efforts

Launching a public relations program will give agents the opportunity to showcase their expertise in the field of travel, Richard Earls writes. "Public relation efforts indirectly market your services by promoting you as a 'go-to' resource for travel information. As you successfully raise your market profile, organizations will begin to seek you out for comments, advice and speaking opportunities.

Experts tout benefits of selling post-, pre-cruise tours

Travel agents should try selling pre- and post-cruise land tours to their clients to gain additional revenue from commissions, tour experts say. The tours add value to cruises for clients and, in the case of pre-cruise tours, ensure that they have ample time to get to their ships on embarkation. A study by the Cruise Lines International Association shows increased interest among clients on destinations they visited during the cruise

Costa incident on industry will be minimal, experts say

The recent disaster involving the Costa Concordia likely will cause only short-term losses in the cruise industry, travel agents and industry observers predict. Past transportation incidents resulted in initial fear among some travelers, causing them to cancel trips, but also a tendency for these same fears to dissipate in a short time. "Educated travelers do understand that in rare situations tragedy happens".

For Travel Agent Success, Sell Image, Not Tickets

Rather than trying to compete with the mega business travel agencies on fees and pricing, smaller agencies should market their image, an expert advises. The key to winning long-term clients is showing that you provide the kind of service and attention to detail that deliver more value.

The World's Best-Kept Travel Secrets,10 Great Places To Explore

1. Isla de Margarita, Venezuela
One of the largest islands in the Caribbean remains largely undiscovered by Americans. Yogerst says it offers a huge variety of landscapes and culture in a small area. "It's all of Latin America on one island. It has rainforests, deserts, fabulous beaches and little Spanish colonial towns." margarita-travel.com

2. Colca Canyon, Peru
The "Grand Canyon of South America" is more than twice as deep as its Arizona counterpart. It's also one of the best places to see Andean condors. "You can go and watch them ride drafts up the canyon wall. It's a majestic desert landscape that goes on forever and ever," Yogerst says. tours.peru.travel/Colca/index_ing.php

3. Wrangell-Kluane Wilderness, Alaska and Canada
Head north to explore one of the world's largest protected areas, the combined lands of Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Canada's Kluane National Park. Taken together, they reach from the Gulf of Alaska to northern boreal forests and cover about 20 million acres. "It's some of the most spectacular wildlife viewing I've had anywhere in North America," Yogerst says. In one trip, he spotted grizzly and black bears, caribou, mountain goats, Dall sheep, and dolphins. 907-822-5234; nps.gov/wrst OR pc.gc.ca/eng/pn-np/yt/kluane/index.aspx

4. Salt Mission Trail New Mexico
Before the Pilgrims arrived, Spanish missionaries were settling the Southwest. But the desert landscape in one corner of what later became New Mexico proved to be too challenging. "What's left now is red-brick adobe ruins," Yogerst says. "People will be surprised by how big some of these missions were with very large churches." newmexico.org/scenicbyways/salt_mission.php

5. Brimstone Hill Fortress St. Kitts
Once called the Gibraltar of the West Indies, this former British colonial fort dominates a flat-topped seaside mountain. Abandoned 100 years ago, it has been restored and offers views of a volcano on the nearby Dutch island of Sint Eustatius. "It's the most impressive of all the British forts I've seen in the Caribbean," Yogerst says. 800-582-6208; stkittstourism.kn

6. Tsitsikamma Trail, South Africa
This 40-mile path is laced with streams and heavy subtropical forests that reminds Yogerst of the Pacific Northwest. He hiked it over the course of five days staying in unstaffed, basic huts along the route. "It is a wild part of Africa. There are monkeys and baboons and leopards there." sanparks.co.za

7. Galle Fort, Sri Lanka
Now that Sri Lanka's civil war has ended, visitors are again discovering this charming fortified colonial city. Built on the Indian Ocean in the 16th century, its tall stone walls protected it from the tsunami that ravaged the region in 2004. "It's preserved almost intact," Yogerst says, and now even has a chic boutique resort. "It's unexpected and not too well discovered." srilanka.travel

8. Small Museums of Tokyo
Like New York, London and Paris, Tokyo has many major museums, but Yogerst suggests seeking out more obscure galleries, such as the Sumo Museum, devoted to the unique Japanese sport, or the Ota art museum. "It's probably the best collection of Japanese wood block prints on the planet," Yogerst says. Another highlight: the Mingeikan Folk Crafts Museum with more than 17,000 objects. "In some ways these say more about Japanese culture than the big museums do." 212-757-5640; www.jnto.go.jp

9. Lavenham , Suffolk, England
Yogerst says it's just a coincidence that the Tudor town where his mother-in-law lives makes his list. "It's the epitome of a quaint English countryside village." There's a cobblestone square with pubs, and no sign of "twee shops," he says. It also has England's largest collection of half timber buildings. "It's the real deal." When he visits he likes to take half-day hikes through the countryside that surrounds the town. www.discoverlavenham.co.uk

10. Ta Prohm temple, Cambodia
This Southeast Asian ruin near the more famous Angkor Wat reminds Yogerst of something out of an Indiana Jones movie. "The stone ruins are literally wrapped in the branches and roots and arms of jungle trees." He says visitors have the feeling they are discovering the site for the first time. "It's cleared enough so you can walk through, but that's all." embassyofcambodia.org
