What Are Your Customers Saying

In looking at all the available research data about customer and client behavior, we found that on the average a satisfied customer will tell about three other people about his satisfaction with a particular product, service, place of business or company.

That's often called word-of-mouth advertising and is widely recognized as the most effective kind of advertising of all. Think about it ? doesn't a trusted friend's recommendation or opinion about a place of business carry more weight in influence with you than all other types of advertising that business or its competitors may do.

Obviously what a customer says about a business can have great affect on other people. From a positive standpoint it's possible for this word-of-mouth advertising to make a big contribution to the growth of a business.

Consider this little math game. If one happy customer creates three more who each create three who each create three who each create three who each create three who each create three you've got 2,217 customers.

This story has a flip side though. The same research indicates that on the average a dissatisfied customer gripes to eleven other people. This shouldn't be surprising. Bad news or negativity seems to spread faster and farther than good news.

When you're irritated, annoyed or disappointed with a business you probably tend to tell that story to a lot of people too. This negative or critical word-of-mouth advertising is powerful also. It can stop people from doing business with a company who might otherwise have done so.

If you want to think about this in shear numbers it only takes one dissatisfied customer to wipe out the positive affect in the marketplace of four satisfied customers. All this only serves to reinforce the obvious? it's very desirable for you to do everything possible to insure that its customers have satisfactory experiences whenever they call, come in or transact business.

Royal Caribbean adding Asian Destinations

Royal Caribbean International will return to Asia in December 2007 with the Rhapsody of the Seas. The Vision-class ship will offer cruises out of Singapore, Hong Kong and Shanghai to ports of call in Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Korea, Japan and Taiwan.

"The introduction of Rhapsody of the Seas into Asia, together with our previously announced deployments of ships to South America and the Dominican Republic, are all part of the company's strategy of international business development and expansion into emerging and high-growth markets," said Adam Goldstein, president of Royal Caribbean International.

The Rhapsody of the Seas will debut Dec. 10, 2007, in Singapore offering a series of sailings that will call on Malaysia and Thailand. The ship then will operate from Hong Kong in time for the Chinese New Year holiday season, offering a series of cruises to Taiwan, Japan and Hainan Island, China.

Then the Rhapsody will move to Shanghai for cruises that call on ports in Japan and Korea. Additional details of Rhapsody's itineraries will be available by mid-October. "We are confident that the Asian market and the Pan-Asia regions, in general, have tremendous growth potential, and view this as a first step in a long-term plan that will define cruising in the region," Goldstein said. "In addition, there has been an increased level of awareness and interest in travel to Asia from India, Australia, New Zealand and the Middle East, which we predict will become strong secondary source markets."

The 78,491-ton, 2,435-passenger Rhapsody of the Seas will be one of the largest cruise ships to homeport in Asia. For more information, call 800-327-6700 or visit www.royalcaribbean.com.

Tourism Australia Offers Life Style Travel

Tourism Australia is promoting a series of programs that allow visitors to experience unusual Australian life styles. Delivering the mail in the Outback, for instance, doesn't sound that exciting, but when the route is a river or follows the world's longest fence, it adds interest.

Just outside Sydney, a participant could join the local Hawkesbury "postie" as he floats down the river delivering mail to the locals. Or travel hundreds of miles through red sand hills and along the Dingo Fence on the Outback Mail Run delivering mail to Australia's largest cattle station, Anna Creek and historic Outback towns like Oodnadatta and Williams Creek for a stop at the Dingo Café or local pub. Mail runs usually happen on Mondays and Thursdays. Visit www.mailruntour.com.

It's also possible to learn the skills of a station hand, a sort of cowboy or "jackaroo" as their known down under. The experience is offered at Goomeri in Queensland www.visitoz.org or Leconfield Jillaroo and Jackaroo School near Tamworth, New South Wales. Clients can also drive cattle at the Great Australian Outback Cattle Drive on one of the seven rides taking place in May or June 2007. Participants join in a drive on horseback along the Oodnadatta track by day and have luxury camping facilities with a swag and campfire catering at night. Cunard has launched the Cunard Academy, an online training program for home based travel agents. The program has four phases with a combination of required and elective classes.
As agents complete each level of the program -- First Officer, Staff Captain, Captain and Commodore -- they will receive a certificate of achievement and a pin indicating their rank and identifying them as a Cunard Academy expert.

Elective offerings examine White Star Service, Cunard's Grill-level accommodations, the new Queen Victoria and the youth program. Agents also will learn about sales opportunities and strategies, onboard enrichment programs and services, Cunard's destinations, customer service, and accessible technology.
Travel agencies with Commodore status agents will receive priority placement in the line's soon-to-debut online travel agency locator and advance notification of travel agent rates. Princess Cruises: No More Paper Tickets on Sailings

Source: Travel Weekly

Princess Cruises said it will be the first cruise line to convert completely over to electronic ticketing, a move the line said will enable it to provide cruise documents to its passengers earlier than any other line in the industry.

According to Princess, travel agents and their passengers will receive their travel documents sooner and more conveniently with the company's new eTickets program.

Through the online Cruise Personalizer, part of the eTickets program, passengers will have 24-hour-access to print cruise details and boarding passes and final booking and travel information also will be delivered.

Meanwhile, Princess said the eTickets program is expected to save travel agents both time and money, as they will no longer need to send final ticket packages on to clients, reducing the resources associated with handling travel documents.

"There's nothing that travelers appreciate more than having their travel details confirmed well in advance and in-hand so they can rest assured their vacation will be their perfect escape," said Jan Swartz, senior vice president of customer service and sales for Princess in a release.

The eTickets program will also provide passengers with their Princess Air details as soon as 75 days in advance, earlier than any other cruise line, Princess said, giving passengers a greater opportunity to finalize their vacation plans and make changes if needed.

Replacing the company's traditional paper documents, Princess eTickets will begin fleetwide for most sailings departing on and after Nov. 17 (Golden Princess will begin with the Dec. 16 sailing). Passengers sailing on or after this date will be able to access their boarding passes and travel summaries starting this week. The program currently applies only to bookings by North American passengers.

"We've been testing eTickets on select groups of passengers for several months now," said Swartz. "Feedback has been overwhelmingly enthusiastic from both customers and agents, who have told us what a great convenience it is."
